Land is the single biggest issue in India. The property titles in India are not properly defined. One of the great hindrances to inclusion, and equity is the fact that the rural economy has not been brought in or connected to the urban economy. We need transparency through clear titles, says Raghuram Rajan to The Times Of India. |

The price of land in Saket, an upper-class colony starts at Rupees 3-3.5 lakhs a square yard. But, the price of land in Sainik farms, which lies opposite to Saket starts from Rupees 30,000 to 50,000.The reason behing this is the inability of the delhi Government to enforce the law. Sales of homes in the colony can't be registered. Land one acquired by the Government is always vulnerable to encroachment, writes Mohit Satyanand in Yahoo News. |

The tribal women of over 500 villages in the range have taken around 20,000 hectares of land and are doing cooperative farming on it for the past two years, claiming ownership on grounds that they are original inhabitants of the forests. But local ‘landlords' and a few companies in mining business in the area are ‘conspiring' with government and forest officials to get the land back.
