People's march planned to demand land rights

25,000 people marched across India for a month protesting against displacement in India, which happened when corporations and industry moved in.80% of the displaced people get no rehabilitation support as they don't have land titles, mostly because they didn't know that it was important to have propery titles.An initial group will march for a whole year, starting in October 2011, with the final month seeing numbers swell to 100,000 before they reach Delhi, reports The Independent.

The Forest department interprets the Scheduled Tribes and other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act in Madhya Pradesh in a strange way. This leads to a lot many problems in its implementation. The department opposes the act which gives rights to Adivasis living on forest lands, and many petitions were filed against it, reports The Hindu.

Avinash Bhosale, a Pune based builder who is politically well connected, made 275 crores from a Cidco plot, leaving Cidco with a change of user fee of 1.25 crores. He did it by on-selling the land by not adding any additional value to it. The highest bidder was Metropolis Hotels at 282 crores.GS Gill, who was in charge when the deal happened, defended himself by stating that Cidco had the power to do so, writes Nauzer K Bharucha in The Times of India.
19,400 slum-dwellers to get property papers

19,400 families in slums in Karnataka will get possession certificates and sale deeds. A loan of Rupees One lakh will be provided to slum dwellers at the interest rate of three percentage. The Government wants to build 3.5 lakh houses for foor families in 2010, reports The Hindu.
